Verb TENER

The verb Tener - (to have, to possess) is very common in Spanish, so we learn and memorize its forms:

Examples: María tiene ocho años. (Maria have 8 years). El perro tiene sed. (The dog is thirsty). Yo no tengo nada que ver con eso. (I have nothing to do with it). Tienen ganas de trabajar. (They want to work). El libro tiene éxito. (The book is successful.). Este chiste no tiene gracia. (This joke is not funny). No tengo miedo.(I'm not afraid) Tengo en cuenta su aporte.(I take your input into account)

Expression Tener que - have to

The expression have to is used when there is an obligation to do something.

Examples: Ud. tiene que hacer ejercicios. (You have to exercise.). Tengo que hacer muchos deberes. (I have to do a lot of homework.). Tengo que tener paciencia.(I have to be patient.). Tengo que ir a la tienda. (I have togo to the store.)
